Last year we ran our trial CSA program. We took 3 memberships, and tried the whole idea out and ran for 5 months. We had a lot of fun with it! We always seemed to have plenty of produce, and a variety to offer. We didn't have any complaints, even when we had the awful tomato blight and lost all that crop. It didn't turn them away and 2 have returned for this year!
Not much will change from last year. We've stremlined our growing plan to have more succession crops, and decided to go with a less bulky way of packing each weeks share (but the bushel baskets were soooo cute!). But the delicious organic produce will still be the same!
We decided the concept worked, and wanted to grow this year, but not too much. We felt confident from last years success, but we limited ourselves to what we thought we could handle growing and said we would take 10 memberships. The funny thing is, we were placed on a CSA directory list with MOFGA, and the response was overwhelming! After filling our limited number of slots (we ended up with 11), we have had in excess of 20 inquiries. I have sadly had to turn them all down.
We wish we could grow for that many people, but we are just backyard gardeners at best, not true farmers by any stretch. We all have other jobs or commitments that keep us from being a large scale farm. Still, we think we like it that way :-)
We do hope to be able to offer a few more memberships for next year, but for now, sorry to all those who we had to disappoint.
