We thought we had an enormous jump on the growing season, but with all the beautiful weather and no rain, the soil conditions are dry and the growth has slowed down so much that we are probably right on track of where things normally are for this time of year.
We have been very busy planting, mulching and weeding (the weeds grow just fine without rain). We have many of our crops up though, especially the greens. Potatoes have poked through, and peas are about a foot tall.
We finished lining the walls of our farm stand this past weekend, and are getting it ready to open for the season. We should at least have our seedlings for sale at our farm stand Memorial Day weekend.
Outside of our normal daily lives which involve many different things for each of us, we collectively are throwing a wedding for a family member next weekend, almost every detail DIY, including the food for 225 guests. All 8 daughters will be in town for this event, so it should be lots of fun too. It will, however, take a lot of our focus next week, so updates may be few and far between. I will try to send a quick email reminder out regarding our first week for CSA, but the facts are we are still planning for our first pickup to be Monday, June 7.....anytime from 4-7 is best. Looking forward to it, and to meeting some of you face to face :-)
