Gardening In March

Mom has been tracking what she does in the winter this year to get us ready for our growing season, and to have early products to sell in the farm stand when it opens May 1. Here's a run down of her thoughts.

March 6 - planted some more onions - one can never have enough onions. Also did some transplanting. Spring is in the air! I had about 50 finches at my feedeer, and 10 red wing blackbirds. Their call is always a harbinger of spring!

March 9 - planted sugar snap peas in the greenhouse.

March 13 - started tomatoes, tomatillos, some more flowers and onions (can't have enough onions). I'm not telling Tammy how many types of tomatoes I started either (I asked her to scale back this year HEHE). Planted lettuce, spinach, carrots, radishes, beets, broc. raab, arugula, and mache (lettuce) in the grow beds in the greenhouse.

March 15 - saw a woodcock this morning. I love the little signs of spring you see every day.

March 20 - pruned the grape vines. Radish, spinach, lettuce, beets, arugala and broc. raab have sprouted up in greenhouse. "Expletive" mouse ate the peas (again). Replanted and set mouse traps.

March 26 - started cauliflower, cabbage, broc., brussel sprouts and chinese cabbage. Caught 3 mice!
